History of Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport
Dallas Airport had an opening ceremony between 20 to 23 September 1973, including the first landing supersonic Concorde in the United States. It was later opened for commercial services on 13 January 1974 as Dallas-Fort Worth Regional Airport. Due to its 17,500 acres, it was the largest airport in the world on an area basis since it was opened. Until 1985, the name of this airport had not changed to an international airport. In 1989, the existing four terminals were rebuilt, and two more runways were added. Terminal D was constructed in 2005 for international flights. Moreover, DFW served 81,764,044 passengers in 2023, creating a record of exceeding 80 million passengers for the first time in the airport's 50-year history.
